Wildcard Search

Wildcard Search

Users can use wildcard characters if users do not know all the search information.  Each wildcard character serves a different function.

Personify allows a user to search in the software using four basic methods.  These include the following:

  • ; - The semicolon is used in personify as a break between name components.

The ; is used to break the name components when using the name search field.

  • % - The percent sign is used as a wildcard for additional characters.

For example, if users know a constituent’s name starts with “Ge”, enter “Ge%” which will return all constituents with a portion of their name that starts with Ge (ex:  Andrew George, George Williams; Anne Georgia Walk)

  • _ - the underscore is used also as a wildcard for a single character

For example, searching for “Sm_th” would return Smith and Smyth, but not Smooth.  The underscore is a wild cord for ONLY 1 character.  (This can be very helpful when searching for batches.)

  • [] – brackets allow users to find any character in a range [a-f] or a set [abcdef].

For example, searching for “[CK]ars[oe]n” would return Carson, Karsen, Carsen.

These can be used in various fields, however sometimes our day-to-day functions require us to include or not include certain pieces of information.  This can include credentials, or address information etc.
