Practice Details
Practice
details are collection points for data specific to company records where
optometry is practiced. These points include EMR, practice type, and NPI
number.
To update the
practice details for a company record, update the following:
- EMR:
From drop down select an electronic medical record. (EMR) An EMR is a
digital version of the traditional paper-based medical record for an
individual. The EMR represent a medical record within a single facility, such
as a doctor’s office or clinic.
The AOA supports the following EMRs within
the Database.
NOTE: The
supported EMRs in the database are not all supported by the AOA MORE Registry.

- NPI
Number: A National Provider Identifier or NPI is a unique
10-digit identification number issued to health care providers in the
United States by the Centers for Medicare and Medicated Services (CMS).
NPI replaced the unique provider identification number (UPIN) as the required
identifier for Medicare services, and is used by other payers, including
commercial healthcare insurers. This transition to NPI was mandated as
part of the Administrative Simplifications portion of the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)

- Practice
Type: Select from the drop down a type of location where the
profession of optometry is practiced. The AOA supports the following
practice types.

setting in which optometry is practiced.
